What we can't tell you · Fragmented
How much tax is raised in total, including council tax and business rates?
Fragmented The data exists but is held by many authorities separately, with no national compilation; coverage has to be tracked authority by authority.
Why
HMRC's receipts tables cover only the taxes HMRC collects. Council tax is collected by local authorities and reported by MHCLG (England), the Scottish Government, the Welsh Government and, as domestic rates, the Department of Finance in Northern Ireland. Business rates are reported the same way. The ONS public sector finances give a whole-economy receipts total but not by tax at the same detail as HMRC. There is no single official table listing every tax raised in the UK with its yield for the same year.
