Breakdowns
What this measures
New social housing lettings in England in the year to March: the sum of the three nationality groups of Table 3e of the Tenants Summary Tables (UK national, EEA countries, all other countries), which cover every letting because the department imputes missing answers in that table. The sum is our addition of the three published figures and each observation names them.
What this doesn’t measure
The number of households living in social housing (this is the year's new lettings, a flow), mutual exchanges, or lettings in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
Important caveat
These count new social housing lettings in England in a year — a flow, not the number of people living in social housing. A household that stays put for decades appears once, in the year it was let the home; nationality here is the lead tenant's at the point of letting. In the grouped table missing nationality has been imputed by the department, so the three groups cover every letting; the specific-nationality table is not imputed, includes "Tenant prefers not to say", and the release itself says it cannot be compared with the grouped figures. CORE covers local authority and private registered provider lettings in England only.
