Definition and caveats

The total amount raised through the adult social care precept on council tax across England in the financial year (MHCLG council tax levels, Table 5). The precept is the ring-fenced additional council tax that authorities with adult social care duties may set on top of the core referendum limit.

Doesn’t measure: Total spending on adult social care, most of which is funded from core council tax, government grants and charges: the precept is one funding stream on top of those.
